Porsche reveals NEW 911 variant

Good news! Porsche has announced a new variant on its 911 coupe.

It isn't the one-wheel-drive-sports-tourer-roadster-4x4-supermini which has been mooted for about a few minutes, but a limited edition (just 1,911 examples) of the 911 Carrera.

Dubbed Black Edition', the car features black paint, 19in Turbo II forged alloy wheels, black-finished four-piston aluminium calipers and black lettering on the stainless steel door entry guards.

The interior gets shod in black leather, while the driver benefits from a thick-rimmed steering wheel. A benefit only if, of course, you have giant banana hands. Should your palms be more conservatively built, the thick-rim could cause difficulty.

The 911 Black also gets a BOSE surround sound system as standard, satnav, ParkAssist, cruise control and rain-sensing windscreen wipers.

The engine stays the same - a 3.6-litre flat six developing 345bhp mated to a six-speed 'box. It'll hit 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds (5.1 for the drop-top) and top out at 180mph. Fuel economy is quoted at 27.4mpg.

The price for this dark-hued chunk of Beetle-derived goodness? 67,270 for the Coupe, and 74,958 for the Cabriolet. We're still waiting for the one-wheel-drive-sports-tourer-roadster-4x4-supermini...

in other news, Falken Motorsport has decided to race a 911 GT3 R in this year's Nurburgring 24hr race. This is a most excellent excuse to look at pictures of the racing beast. And here they are...

In case you've forgotten, the GT3 R packs 480bhp from a 4.0-litre six, and will showcase this power when the Ring race kicks off on 25-26 June 2011.
