Action Cars magazines top 10 adventures of 2010

An ordinary road test usually involves one new car, one seasoned motoring hack and a deluge of handles-like-its-on-rails' clichs.
Thankfully, we're not ordinary. Jeremy's telly test of the Ford Fiesta would have told you that much. It involved storming a beach with the Royal Navy.
And in this vein, this year in Action Cars magazine we've scoured the globe searching for locales to test the hottest machinery out there. Here, for your viewing pleasure, are our greatest adventures of 2010...

Porsche Cayman S versus the road of 3,000 curves
Mexico isn't the safest place in the world right now. Which is why Action Cars's Sam Philip was sent across a twisting mountain pass right through the heart of drug-war territory with only a Porsche Cayman S for company. Scared? Only of the Really Quite Spicy Food...

BMW M3 GTS versus Austrian Alps
The most expensive BMW 3 Series money could've bought (they're all sold now) dodges some rather cute squirrels on the Austrian Alps. Can the Orangey-boom survive the cuddly marmot, and - more importantly - is it any good?

Audi R8 GT flat out in the UK
Tom Ford finds out many things about the new Audi R8 GT as he schleps to the ankles of Scotland. One of these is that the R8 is not a bloody GT. It's loud, stiff, fast, brutal and angry.

Call of the QT Wildcat
Cornwall. The only fully road-spec Qt Wildcat in existence. A big cliff. Action Cars weaves the big black manifestation of pure V8 evil through the geriatric flocks of Rovers and finds out what this motorised Death Star is all about.

Rizk DBR2 in the desert
Following a few late night emails and some glancing at the internet, TG heads 6,000 miles to California to drive a car nobody has ever heard of. Madness? Probably. Thankfully, Egyptian entrepreneur Wa-el Rizk looms into view driving a car which prompted our intrepid heroes to spontaneously shout out holy s***'. This car is AWESOME.

Hanging with the homemade Baja Racer
Hang on, you design and build the car, and it's legal? Our man tracks down the CEO of Local Motors - John Rogers Jnr, ex-sniper in the US Marines - in Arizona to sample the company's first community designed car, the modestly named Rally Fighter'. Jay, as he's known to his friends, then proceeds to jump the thing 15 feet in the air...

Action Cars meets the Ferrari 599 GTO
Never before has one Action Cars road tester felt excitement like this: waiting to drive only the third Ferrari GTO in 63 years. A Ferrari 599 GTO to be precise; a 599 which houses jet-fighter-esque stability systems and a 6.0-litre V12 capable of 661bhp and 0-124mph in under ten seconds. We tracked it down in Tuscany to, y'know, give it a little spin...

Where the wild things are
We could have tested BMW's X6 - the world's most urbanified SUV - in an, erm, urban environment. Instead, we decided to send it to Europe's largest wilderness to a Polish forest to go wolf-hunting. We packed a Tom Ford' and some half-eaten ham-sandwiches to lure the beasts out of their hiding places...

Extreme drive: Formula Off-Roader
Formula Off-Road: vehicles attempt to drive a course that incorporates a series of gates, and you must navigate them (without touching) in the fastest time possible.
The catch? The course includes cliff faces, lava, black sand and the cars are 800bhp V8 buggies. Action Cars's lightly worried road tester went to Iceland to take a quick peek. He came back broken.

What's it like to drive a... big MAN army truck
Every man's dream: winning the world cup, becoming Emperor of America and decking Jedward in the mouth. And, driving a massive great Army truck.
